RE: doubler vs FWB low resistance PS

Your doubler transformer has a lower VA rating - it will be 1/4 of the resistance of a 450V winding or 1/16 the resistance of a 450-0-450 winding to be equivalent in VA capacity. And for electrolytics at 600V, you'd probably stack two lower voltage ones in series...

The doubler and full-wave bridge SHOULD come out almost precisely the same for regulation and current capacity. The only real disadvantage of the doubler is greater ripple current in the capacitors, which also have slightly higher ESR (loss) at the 60 Hz ripple frequency. The full-wave center-tap will lose by about 30% against either due to poorer utilization of the winding - the halves of the winding carry current alternately, each in only one direction.
