> They reduce distortion.I think it's apparent that the designers of these amps relied on NFB loops and/or UL taps as the means of reducing distortion. Resistors in the cathodes of fixed-bias output circuits were installed in order to measure bias. The relatively low value of these resistors renders bypass caps non-essential, and such caps were omitted to save cost. Any (further) reduction in distortion that might be afforded by these resistors - if any - was not a marketable commodity. I'll add that the resistors were sized for convenient measuring, not optimal distortion reduction, as evidenced by: 100 mA * 10 ohms = 1 volt.
