quick thoughts on capacitors

I used to be a crazed cap swapper, trying out many, many brands in different circuits. Over the years, I've found that the break-in period showed the largest difference between capacitors. However, as the sound broke in, I found that the difference between different manufacturers (of the same type) lessened. eg - many metallized capacitors, after a lengthy break-in, pretty much sounded the same. Or the difference between polysterene caps also diminished as time went on. Perhaps it's a matter of the brain getting used to the sound over time?

Anyway - my advice now is to but good capacitors, but don't go crazy. The sound of the circuit itself is more important than the passive parts.
