Re: How will *your* amp do in *my* house?

on point 1

when you say folks here, i assume you include yourself and your own sweetheart strategies. as for the contradiction, i always side with whatever sounds best... then i look for why.

greater linearity and less distortion are both concepts we all strive for, what i object to is associating numbers with those distortions, because the numbers just lock down and limit the scope of the information.

point 2

who went for the numbers rather than the concept???

i'm truly sorry if anyone has a tough time dealing with my disdain for attaching numbers... if you miss the point of the underlying concept the only thing adding numbers to it does is makes you feel like you are accomplishing something. if thats your bag, go for it, just don't get pissed at me when i don't agree with your opinion.

to start this off fresh... when we talk about stages, we want to design for just enough gain and plenty of headroom... insert your own definitions of "just enough" and "plenty" based on experience/the rest of the system (including listening habits) here.

do you agree or disagree with the above statement??? if you agree, then its a simple education to learn how to apply numbers (this is diy fer crissakes) for a speciffic instance, if you disagree, fine... we have different tastes/opinions... i am willing to accept that.

i guess i'm saying, rather than attach the numbers, learn the concept and make your own damn decisions, you know give a man a fish and he will eat for a day...
