Re: clarification

Well, I don't know if this is 100% correct, but I would attach the power cord ground wire to the power supply chassis, and then run a dedicated hardware ground wire to the signal chassis. I would float the power supply circuit itself and not attach it to the power supply chassis at all, so you would be feeding the signal chassis with power leads that have no reference to chassis ground. Now, at the signal chassis, I would attach signal ground to chassis metal where the input signals come into the chassis. This would in turn reference the power supply to chassis ground, but it would only be connected by way of the signal chassis. The power supply chassis would in turn be connected to the signal chassis by way of that dedicated hardware ground wire in the connecting cable.

Confusing enough? I may try and draw it up so it'll be clearer.
