No way would I go forward with a project like this using the original PPP configuration. It just isn't as practical as it was in the '60s. The EL34 would indeed be a good substitute, but you could also use the 6P3S-E. I've used this tube with OPT primaries around 4K (HK), and they work well. Their gain isn't as high as tubes like the EL34, EL84 or 7355, but you're not limited to the original 330V supply voltage. With B+ of +420V and fixed bias, the Eico will provide roughly the same output power as the original quad of EL84s. Just another option for consideration...
