I remember running across that site some time ago, but hadn't remembered to go back. Max has done a lot homework for anyone interested in this. You know, one of the things that has always bothered me about tone controls is their fixed turnover frequency. Particularly in tube circuits, I usually find the bass and treble are both boosted and cut much too close to the midrange. This often causes muddy bass and squakish upper mids. What's usually needed when I find it necessary to compensate is a moderate modification of frequencies further removed. This has often led me to ponder whether it would be worth the trouble to use switches rather than pots. That would allow more design freedom in choosing levels and turnover points, because the interaction that results from the use of fixed value pots would be eliminated. One of these days, I intend to have a long SPICE session to see whether this is a practical approach.
