Hi.
You got quite a few prgrammes to feed it besides CD player? A preamp is only needed as a programme selector as well as a phono cartridge preamp if you also play vinyls.
Otherwsie, drop it. It is a sonic bottleneck which should be disposed as CD/DVD player, tape deck & tuner all get enough signal to drive your power amp direct. The reward is more airy, roomy & more transparent music. So keep the volume pot there.
That's what I've been doing for years now.
