There was more than one type of power tranny used during the HF-20's production (actually there may have been 3 different ones). I have owned many of these units and the ones I have had that were blown were all the thinner lam stack variety. The ones to look for are those with the thicker stack that have a horizontal slot for a third mounting screw for the bell caps. The larger stack ones seem to be much more reliable (the xfmrs on my amps have been in service without a problem since their first makeover over 15 years ago). It also helps to have a SS fully regulated P/S. BTW, while a little more conservative (it's used in my 8year old girls system) here's another HF-20 output based amp.
