Hi!
Preferably the chokes should be un-potted (coincidence? most hum originated from a choke with a dust cap). It is preferred to use a dust cap of wood, especially nice when this is lacquered with C37! In this case the ‘metallic haze’ in the mid-highs will be reduced while the sound field will open up, in other words slightly less coarse in the mid-high frequencies with a more extended low-frequency response. Red copper is also okay, but is slightly less good than wood (transparency/tonal color).
The use of litz wire inside the choke increases the tonal color palette in the mid-low frequency range in adverse of a slight increase in coarseness in the mid-high frequencies. However, this is a type of coarseness also present with life-music.
The wire to the chokes must preferably be self lacquered wire ~0.8-1.0 mm with ideally three layers of C37 (this because of the tonal color and the avoidance of bleakness). So not like signal wire where absolutely clean metal (no lacquer, synthetic insulation) with paper of cotton insulation must be used because otherwise the finesse and speed of the sound gets lost. A more extensive report will follow about this.

Nickel Core
