Unfortunatly in Dutch, but these guys tested 11 different chokes, and also played with currents trough the choke (see link).
Their conclusion:
Select a choke specified at 6 times the required current for optimal (listening) results;
If you choose a choke rated at more than 6 times the required current, power and energy of the performance will increase, whilst the coarseness of micro-dynamics/detail/timbre increases also.
If you choose a choke rated less than 6 times the required current, micro-dynamic/detail/finesse increases, but power/dynamics will suffer.
So, it appears the chokes do sound 'different' when using different currents trought them. Using the choke at 1/6 th. of the rated current provided a subjective optimum in their listening tests.
