First of all, we were talking about a push pull amplifier.

As to lower the standing current in a SE amplifier;

If the SE output transformer does not have the inductance (lowering the standing current will increase the inductance) then get an output transformer better suited to your circuit (needs).

The way I look at it, if you have to run the tube at a operating point that is less than optimum for the tube because of a transformer that isn't suited for the circuit, lowering the standing current is a band aid.(same would go for the power transformer, the filters, etc.)

You see it as good design practice, I see it as bad design practice.
