Tre',
Only theoretically will it have lower distortion. What does the all Class A amp's operation do to the core of the output trannie, if it is a Single Ender, versus a lower current draw mode of operation?
Tre' is looking primarily the tube specs, and one must consider the effect on the entire amp, the power transformer, the filters, the output transformers, etc.
What happens when you reduce current in SE output transformer from 60 mA to 40 or 45 mA ??? How about the power transformer? How about the chokes??
So in reality, when all aspects and ramifications are considered, a Single Ended amp can and does sound better when operated with tubes that are less stressed, ie:, as found by many top notch builders in actual practice.
You are addressing a non inclusive theoretical and I address the all inclusive real life result. One could argue it either way, but I am ONLY interested in the final listening results, that result - in my humble opinion, is what is the truth.
