you seem to have the back (speaker/room) end figured out, so the question becomes what your preamp can do and how to make the most of it wrt your system.
if your preamp is active and delivers the juice you have a very different situation than a "stock" CD driving passive.
if you lay out your system, advice will follow from many sources. It is then up to you to decide which path to follow.
