But it does sound good, much better dynamically, with 10 gauge. You are too formally trained to have an open mind mikeyb.You have to realize, I am not yet using the phono stage ( 12AX7 @ .22 mA and .21 mA .) I use the Line Stage.
The Line Stage operates at .83 mA and 1.06 mA ( 12AU7 ) and the 12AX7 front end amp stages operate at .55 mA ( input) and .85 mA. ( splitter ).
The first thing I did.... I added a neat 37 mHY choke as a choke input filter, so I have a ( not meeting critical inductance at 60 HZ ) L input filter in my HF-81 to strip RF and control the twin EZ81 tube diodes !!
NONE of the stock HF-81 audio components have been replaced, except for a couple of leaky supply caps.
But its not about the HF-81, its about HIGH QUALITY 10 gauge wire for a 1 mA or less tube stage.
