I just completed a 2A3 JE Lab's 2001 in Mono Block form with modified PSU and heater circuit using MagnaQuest TFA-204 (purchased from Bottlehead)I also debated for months on which OT to also purchase but I didn't want to break the bank. At $250pair I believe that this is a reasonable price for a hand built multi tap 2A3 OT.
I have used an assortment of Hammonds and other "lower priced" OT's and they all work but if you are going to the expense of building a high quality 2A3 SET you won't regret spending that extra dough on a quality OT.
