Re: Very sweet, low budget 45 SE amp

Vinnie, I have never heard high-end horn speakers. I can only imagine that they sound great, but considering the cost I don't plan to join the 100+ club in the near future. I did build a single driver transmission line set of speakers using a relatively cheap Pioneer driver this winter. I was disappointed. I have maybe half a dozen sets of homebuilt speakers using Audax, Vifa, Morel, Seas, Focal,... drivers, by comparison the sound of the Pioneer is compressed , completely lacking in dynamics and not near as efficient as I was hoping.
As for amps I like the 2A3 but, I have other home builts that I like more, namely an ultralinear 6L6SE. It is more dynamic and the headroom afforded by the extra power doesn't hurt. The 2A3 is relaxed sounding and at the moment my main amp. Currently I am working on several other amps, a 1625PP, EL34PP, 1626SE and one other that doesn't come to mind. My problem now is that the weather is getting better here in rural Ont. Canada and work doesn't allow for enough spare time to work on tube audio projects... next fall I'll continue.
Anyway, any thoughts on efficient speakers to help exploit the refined qualities of the 45 would be of value. Cheaper the better!!!
Stefan
