I too built this amp. I changed things as well, 100k pot for the 1Meg, individual filament supplies,6sl7, 83 rect. tube, assorted oil caps in power supply, surplus power tranny, and Hammond 125ESE... I folded a nice metal case with wood sides. Painted the metal work copper metallic Imron. Wired the whole thing in an afternoon, which was one of the reasons that I chose such a simple design. I was also interested in hearing what a very low parts count amp could sound like.
I am likely not very objective, regardless the amp sounds very good. I am limited by my speakers which are nowhere near sensitive enough for this amp. So I was unable to hear what all the 45 fuss is about. What I enjoy most are 2A3's in the 45 amp. A bit more output...
I am currently running a Fi Primer 2A3 while the 45 gets a few finishing touches.
