I cannot say that I have a lot of experience with tube amps but so far I have built 2a3, 45, 300B. vt52 and for drivers have used 6sn7 and 5842.
After modifying my 'universal' amp which could take 2a3, 45 and 300b to use a 10Y, man I am amazed!. The 10Y sounds really good. it has now become my main amp. The best thing is that the circuit is not at all optimised for the 10Y. Circuit is 5842-IT-10Y. Plate voltage about 400V and cathode at about 30V. I did have to replave the opt though because it was initially a 5K buut using a lundahl 1627, i was able to configure to a 9.2K. All I can say now is that I am glad I have 3 pairs of 10Y.
