I compared JJ EL34 (triode mode), OS Phillips 45 and Sovtek 2A3 in the Amity adjusting the bias for each tube.
IMO EL34 sounded like a fast, polished refine/detail version of a SS amp. The OS 45 had less power (as expected) but opened up the sound, difference was remarkable, a pleasure to listen to. IMO the Sovteks sounded better then the OS Phillips 45's.In SE mode DHT's also sounded better, with 45's SE you would requires high efficiency speakers, EL34's in SE sound louder but don't have that openness.
