No, probably not - but I was hoping to use NFB if I could - so that would then become a requirement.

I think that's a fine idea, although I would personally use a 71A as the driver. It has almost the same swing, with lower plate current. I think you might saturate the primary of a LL1660 with a #45.
A #31 would also be a good match for the LL1660 as a single-ended driver stage, but it would have a lower output voltage.
