Home Tube DIY Asylum

Do It Yourself (DIY) paradise for tube and SET project builders.

Probably not . . .

. . . the voltage on the upper tube's cathode will exceed the cathode/heater voltage rating of either a 27 or 56, which, IIRC, is 45 volts. You'd risk an arc-over. Rather than a 27 or 56, I'd load the lower tube with a pentode like a 6AU8 or even a 6BQ5 configured as a CCS. Of course 27's or 56's filaments run at 2.5V, so you'd need a 6.3V winding. But the results will be well worth the effort.
