I just noticed something about this. The VV45's I have (solid plates) heat up much faster than an old globe 45. The VV45's will heat up faster than the 5U4 rectifier I use in my PP45 amp (a 5U4 rectifier is also directly heated). But the globe 45's won't heat as fast as a 5U4 and hence with the globes in then there will be voltage present before they begin to conduct. The VV45's don't experience this in the same circuit. Just FYI.
