So my signal generator isn't that great either. Feeding it straight into the soundcard the second harmonic is only -43 db and the higher orders are almost as high. I can get a cleaner signal off of a test record through my phono preamp. Its second harmonic is about the same but the higher orders drop like a rock.
This is where the average volume is. It's the 1kHz 0db reference tone on the AP test record played through my diy phono preamp at maximum volume. That 1 kHz tone is only about 1/100 of a watt.
