I agree with Chris. The phase splitter being last just before the power tubes has less circuitry to cause out of balance alignment. For many pentodes that enjoy low drive requirements, a cathodyne type with matched plate & cathode resistors is about fool proof. Higher voltage swings are better served with a twin tail inverter in my opinion.
