Once upon a time---- I used to think that way too! But then I worked, designed, built and studied, and graduated to a higher level of performance.
There are so many variables that we could argue for months over any single part-- an example might be that we would use a 2.5K or 3K transformer on a 2A3, and we might go for 5K or 6K on a 45. Those two transformers are totally different animals-- they do not sound even remotely alike.
We might use a Mundorf Gold/Silver cap on a 45 tube cathode, but then we might go to Rel-Cap Tin-foils, or a Dynamicap on the 2A3 cathode. Those don't sound the same either. We'll just use the best one for the tube and circuit that we're into.
When we get all done, both amps will reproduce music exactly the same way.... correctly.
I'm not looking back-- I like reproducing music the way it was recorded/....
