If you can read a schematic, its more fun to put together your own kit of parts and built. I built Eric Barbours 45 single ended glory amp foor about $600 using premium parts. Iron from Handmade.com. tubes from ebay,(now using EML's), passive parts from Handmade, Mouser, etc.
MG16 Glass Audio and the internet have tons of projects where you are given the schematic, parts lists, mod ideas, parts preferences, etc.
