hifi-manuals.com has owners and service manuals for (I think) all the 710 versions. I forget the layout, but the big round warm (not hot) thing could be either the pinch-roller solenoid or the capstan motor.

If there is any burning smell, I would not power it up -- at all -- until someone susses it out. Good luck.
