RE: My deck is having a hissy fit!

Try cleaning and demagnetizing your heads. Also, clean the scape filter, any felt pads, capstan and rollers. When all this is done, ensure the felt pressure pad on the playback head is applying equal pressure top to bottom; fits flush top to bottom across the head. I had the same problem with my SONY and eventually bought a new head as it seems the right channel always sees more wear because it has more pressure applied by the pressure pad. It's just the nature of the beast as most pressure pads are mounted on a hinged pressure plate that applies more pressure nearer the hinge. Hence, the right channel tend to wear out more quickly.
