"I hate to tell you this, but for many years I actually used a modified Ampex MX-10 all tube 4-channel x 2 mixer in my classical location work."
Forgive me if I've shared this story with you before. A friend of mine gave me his old MX-10 that he used back in the 1960's for recording. It was used on one of the major orchestra's in the US for many years. It was also used on a historic recording of a university for a record they issued with "Dixie" on it. The band stopped playing Dixie at the football games because of the problems it was causing. The university reissued the lp without Dixie on it. I tried to get a copy of this lp from my friend, but he only had one copy. It would be nice to have the lp with the mixer. I've been looking for that lp for years and never could find the one with Dixie on it. I do have the reissue lp without Dixie.
I've never tried to plug it in and use it. I know one of the tubes has to be replaced as it is white inside it. Someday I would like to have it updated so it could be used again. I think it would be great to use on a big band recording.
