Amplifier: Bottlehead Paramour
Preamplifier (or None if Integrated): Adcom GFP-555mkI as phono preamp and Audio Experience Music Mk3 preamp
Speakers: Altec Valencia circa 1974, vintage JBL (D130a woofers, LE175, and n1200 crossover), and Hawaii 5.0 from Valve mag
Sources:
CD Player/DAC: 40gig Ipod
Turntable/Phono Stage: Systemdek IIX with Audioquest PT-5 arm and a Dynavector 10X5 cart.
Other Source(s): Eico HFT-90 tube tuner (need MPX adapter), Harman Kardon tape deck, and Nakamichi 480 tape deck
Other Accessories/Room/Misc.:
Speaker Cables/Interconnects: Kimber PBJ and various DIY including 89259, CST, and CAT5.
Other (Power Conditioner, Racks etc.): DIY amp stands and Plateau equipment rack
Tweaks: DIY power line filters, Panamax Max 1000
Room Comments/Treatments: Window behind the speaker covered by drapes. A couple of large plants between the speakers. Left side of room has a huge record shelf. Next to the right speaker is my bed.
Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Classic Rock, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, and some Country
System Goals/Comments: I want to take advantage of the great sound from SET amps at a low cost.
System Strengths: Vinyl sounds natural yet detailed. Bass control is good, but not great. The Valencias can sound a little boomy sometimes. I need to put them up on cement blocks like I had in my old apartment. Blocks firmed up bass and improved highs and imaging.
System Weaknesses: The Valencias run out of steam in the upper registers. I sometimes run a RS supertweeter to help out with the highs. CD player take a crap and I am using my Ipod instead. Also, need to replace the cartridge because one channel went out.
