Music Preferences and Comments:
Music Used (Genre/Selections): Melodic "Power Pop" (Westerberg, Crenshaw, Cheap Trick), "Ambient" (Dead Can Dance, Bel Canto, Love Spirals Downward, Cocteau Twins), Industrial (everything from Ministry to VNV Nation), Jazz (Brubeck, Davis, Holiday, Krall ), Classical (String Chamber Music favoring Cello and Double Bass).
System Goals/Comments: Great 2 channel performance with the option of DD and DTS for watching DVDs. I'm willing to sacrifice HT sound quality for 2 channel sound quality. I listen to 2 chanel stereo 80% of the time. The least inexpensive A/V Preamp-Processor that I thought had good 2 channel stereo was the Anthem AVM-20. Beyond that, it was Theta and Lexicon. I dediced to get a good integrated amp for 2 channel and an inexpensive A/V receiver with preamp outs. Since new features are being added to AVR's all the time, I thought it was more cost effective to upgrade my A/V receiver every 1.5-2 years rather than buy an upgradeable processor (ie Theta) and pay for upgrading the cards when necessary. If I used my system for home theater more, I might think differently.
System Strengths: Great value on all components since I bought most of them used. The Krell integrated has a great feature not found on many integrateds that they call "Theater Throughput" which allows me to used it as a power amp (preamp bypass) with the touch of one button. I can then use it to power the mains L-R for home theater without switching cables. The NAD receiver powers the center and rear speakers when watching movies.
System Weaknesses: Poor Room Acoustics. Not that great for home theater . Then again it sounds better than any movie theater I've been to and I didn't sink a lot of money into the HT portion.
