Re: Inmate transfer

hello duke

it is a very interesting point, one that I didn't consider up to now. in fact one speaker that I always held in good esteem is the Qln Signature, a monitor in an incredibly silent cabinet built of very thick mdf sandwiched with a layer of elastoplastic material in between. the truncated pyramid design eliminates standing waves inside the cabinet (who was first, wilson or qln?). It's been around since the beginnings of the 80's in different issues, I think the latest I saw was with the carbon fibre doped 7" woofer from Vifa that can be found also in Proac Response 2.5 (note: the picture on their website is an even older model!). The Qln was the speaker that made me want to get a better stereo system, I was so impressed of what one could get from such a relatively small speaker. It was driven by a moderately powerful Onix amp with a micromega stage1 cd-player (yes, it's a few years ago). unfortunately I couldn't afford them at the time.
I am still interested in these speakers but have never seen or heard of anyone using them with tubes, perhaps they're too inefficient. Also I think the company has been taken over by Primare/Copland, whether that's good or bad I don't know but the price is now twice that of -94...

Regarding planars, yes I have thought about them and I would really like to try the MMG but I'm in Europe... Seems like planars are not so common around here but I'll keep looking.

thanks for your post,
mikke
