Are there any inherent advantages (or disadvantages) in using multiple
smaller drivers for a subwoofer of a given type (sealed, vented, etc.) as opposed to a single large driver? For example, suppose a properly designed sealed subwoofer employed two 12 inch instead of, say, one 18 inch driver, what would be the advantages? Disadvantages? I would think that the 2 smaller drivers would be quicker, more responsive and that the larger driver would be harder to control. But assuming that both designs could be tuned to the identical frequency response and were capable of the same output I would think the multiple driver design would be more complex and thus more expensive. But that is purely a guess. Any comments?Robert C. Lang
