LF cutoff vs. diffraction, that sort of thing. The late Siegfried Linkwitz's site is well worth a look, as is "JE Labs" (Joseph Esmilla's) re-introduction of a seminal OB design (of almost ridiculous simplicity).

http://jelabsarch.blogspot.com/2012/06/open-baffle.htmlThere's an immense OB thread at AK, too, that's probably worthy of perusal.
https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/open-baffle-epiphany.566879/The cost of entry is so low, though, I'd sugget that it is (probably) best to just pick a strategy, try it, then alter to taste.
Full disclosure: I have fiddled with OBs off and on for decades but have never really taken the plunge (or jumped the shark , choose your favorite metaphor!). I have curated ;) a... distressing number of OB-friendly drivers, but I'll probably never really do much in that vein. Too many other ways to get excellent sound that still seem to be more practical, all things considered.
all the best,
