Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: Why are active loudspeakers not popular among audiophiles?

Most audiophiles prefer maximum involvement and control over their gear. The same way as in integrated vs separates. Any all-in-on component is simply not as flexible as individual components which constituted a loss of control. We tend to want components that can be changed individually one piece at a time for determining what really sounds better to us. Cables, amps, pre, speakers, etc. As I have 3 systems set up I can move stuff around to different rooms and combinations to determine which I like best. An active speaker, which may be nice, puts an end to that involvement.
On another note I am encountering more and more people getting into audio who are gravitating to vintage gear. Of 3 systems my newest speakers are from the early 1980's and I don't plan on anything newer in the foreseeable future.
