Too much stuff to go wrong in one large (or small) box.
Fine for cheap desk monitors, not so fine for serious hifi components -- although I'll allow that it should be possible to "perfectly" tailor an active system to... to... umm... to whatever standard the manufacturer sees as "ideal". Which may not conform to my expectations. ;)
