maybe, but what he did say was fine ... and I paraphrase that as:

all he basically said was that not all music is mellifluous and speakers should be able to reproduce what's in the audio signal as faithfully as possible ... whether it squawks or hurts your ears

he did leave out 'all things being equal' but I didn't miss it

it sure got some mileage though, he should write ad copy!
