RE: Kramer's Best Antique Improver

That's not the way I read his post. I read it that he has the oiled finish and not lacquer. Actually, rereading it, it's a bit ambiguous what finish it is he has. The Treo model has been around for several years now, and I took his statement to mean he had the older oil finish.

If it is lacquer, then I completely agree with you.

Kramer is not giving up his recipe beyond real turpentine and bees wax, which leaves twelve other ingredients unknown. I been using it on our shellac finished antiques for decades and it's good stuff, and the smell is wonderful. Having used petroleum based turpentines all my life I had no idea the real stuff smelled so good.

My dad was a Sherwin Williams dealer back in the 50's and early 60's, so I grew up with Mar-Not varnish in my blood. Shellac and varnishes, IMO, deliver the best, or at least most beautiful, results as long as you maintain them.
