RE: What specific model of Avalon do you have, what you like about them

Avalon Symbol., small slim towers that Avalon made to appeal to the HT crowd. I've said here before they have the resolution of the much more expensive speakers up Avalon's line at the time, just not the bass response. They really are amazing for their size. They stopped making them because they were pretty expensive to make (Focal t120 tweeters, ceramic coated woofers, premium crossover parts, but the price was only $3500 at the time. I think they expected people to buy the whole package they offered, subs, center etc, but it didn't work that way.

I like the size, the transparency, speed, complete lack of boxiness. What I want is a larger sound. I'm not a bass freak, so that is less important to me. What I don't like is that they are not particularly efficient or "easy to drive", by the specs at least, 87 Db and nominal 5 ohm. I've never had any trouble getting enough volume, though those on the Amp Asylum all tell me I need "more power" to get the most out of them. I'm still skeptical, because at the volume I listen to in my space I'm not even using 2 watts of my amps power. I've driven them with an NAD integrated @ 50 watts (meh), a Sonic Frontiers Power 1 @ 55 watts, and an 8 watt Wavelength 300B integrated and I never felt like I needed more power.

The sub option is looking like my best choice, I just don't know if I can squeeze them into the space I have.
