I am sure that they do make a difference for you . However the OP is not concerned about his experience. He is concerned about his downstairs neighbour's experience. I could not believe that small square ( or any other size or shape) Tibetan (or of other origin) rugs will make a tad of difference to the problem of bass notes being transmitted through a wooden floor. May work for triangle notes though ;-).
