The topic comes up with some regularity on the Harbeth Users Group forum. Alan Shaw voices Harbeths with grills on and recommends listening with them on. He said that the grills affect the response up to a couple of dB in a part of the frequency range. He also feels that with drivers visible, you become psychologically more aware of how the sound is produced, and grills help make speakers visually less distracting so the listener will focus more on listening to music instead of looking at the speakers. Nevertheless, many Harbeth owners take the grills off because they want to expose the nice woodwork.
