there was another guy that I read about years ago [can't find a link though] that had two columns built in on either side of a substantially sized fireplace that were the enclosures for a set of ... I want to say 30" woofers ... those spaces were connected via pylon construction tubes to large chambers he had in the foundation that were reconnected top side
to form tuned ports ... with the claim of 16Hz and 'lightening quick' rise and fall response
these kind of guys are the ones into recordings of trains, canon, pipe organs, whales ... and signed copies of the Godzilla movie soundtrack I'd imagine
I remember Romy posting on high efficiency [I think] way back where he remodeled a good sized room into basically a pair of three set giant folded horns tuned in a three way configuration driven by six tube amplifiers, three / side one for each bandpass ... pretty innovative and entirely over the top gonzo
always wondered where the hell the funds came from ...
