I was looking at the Stereophile measurements of another Elac Debut speaker ,the B6. Here too a severe resonance was found (at 188Hz) which was certainly audible. Herb Reichert describes the speakers as " vibrating like a sex toy" :-).
However as you point out , you are not going to get the performance of a $1500 speaker with a $300 one especially as basic cabinet construction is one typical way of saving enough money to sell at that price. Using the usual rule of thumb ratio which holds that the increase from cost of manufacture to retail price is a 1:5 uplift those Elacs may have cost just $60 to build, parts and labour.
