Decca records was bragging about 30 db dynamic range way back in the 60s and things are way better now. Recordings with wide dynamic range are rare but they exist. I have a Carmina Burrana live recording done with no compression. And There are some piano recordings that the peaks are pretty strong. Besides as I said some amps can't put full output into difficult loads and then clipping can occur. My good friend George Biscoff(Melos electronics, Pipedreams speakers) liked to say a good big un will beat a good little un every time.
