"Actively driven" is the phrase that's confusing you, I guess.
Current flow direction does NOT change which terminal is "actively driven." (Think about that a little bit.)
For our general example here...in MOST audio power amplifiers the red output terminal will vary its voltage above and below the black (ground) terminal during normal operation. Obviously current flow will reverse direction depending upon the relative polarity of the output voltage present.
Regardless, the red terminal is the one that's fluctuating ("active") and is thus sourcing (or sinking) current depending upon the signal drive to the amplifier.

Oh please! I never premised (or said) any such thing. Yet ANOTHER silly straw man argument.
Obviously this is a series circuit. Both terminals are conducting the exact same amount of current at all times.
