Price-wise, I think you're aiming a little too low. Considering the kind of system you're used to enjoying, I think you need to set your sights just a little bit higher.
If it has to be something new, PSB Imagine T is on sale for $1200/pair on Crutchfield right now. Crutchfield still has some of the (now discontinued) Monitor Audio Silver 8 for $1100/pair. The smallest floorstander in the new Elac Debut 2.0 line (DFR52) is also $1200/pair.
But if you're looking for a second pair of speakers just to try a different sound, and you plan to keep the Gershman's, then I think you would be better off buying a pair of used stand-mounted speakers. You'll get more bang from the buck and you can always re-sell them for minimal loss if you decide not to keep them. If you fill the stands and use Blu-Tack to secure the speakers, they can be just as stable as floorstanders.
