Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

RE: To both questions... No and No...

well I've been using those as bedroom speakers for about 3 years and I would say for that purpose they are more than good enough; the drivers in there are actually very very nice - specially the 12inch with Alnico magnet. They have the "faults" common to speakers of that era: no attention to diffraction issues (all drivers are recessed behind the front baffle, with a non-removable acoustic fabric in front), no attention to having a mirror-imaged pair; very basic crossover (which may actually be a good thing). They don't sound "audiophile" but they are enjoyable, with a well balanced presentation. I suppose the caps must have drifted far from the original values, and I'm sure at least putting fresh caps won't hurt.
I intend to keep them as aesthetically they have that vintage look that matches the bedroom environment nicely. So spending a reasonable amount of cash on them won't be a loss.

The brand Isophon actually still exist, but they changed their name to Gauder Acoustics.
