They ax. But mine were converted for $10 each with kits from ARre very inefficient, the more power the better.
My first speakers were AR2a which had 2 5" drivers instead of the 3 " in AR2a with new 3" drivers and new grills(old ones had to be ripped off) for $10(including shipping) each with kits from AR.
By the way they really are not 3 way speakers but 2 ways with a super tweeter. The 'mids' cross around 2000 Hz(typical for a tweeter today and the dome tweeters as high as 7500 Hz depending on how late the speaker was made(later ones used the better AR3a tweeter instead of the AR3 tweeter.
And the didn't image like todays speakers because of the geometry of driver layout.
Bass goes into the 40s. It's a closed box and true acoustic suspension(all closed boxes are not acoustic suspension) with a box resonance about 50 Hz.
And AR held a huge part of the audio speaker market in the mid 60s, about 33 %. For a while the Boston school of speakers, all AR off shoots dominated the market until Thiel/Small made ported designs easier to do.
