Active crossover and active subs - question

Using active subwoofers connected to the subwoofer outputs of an external active crossover (say 60Hz, 24dB)... I know the ideal situation would be to have an LFE input on the subs, in which the signal arrives filtered by the eternal active x-over, and doesn't go through the sub's internal low-pass crossover.
Now, when using subs that DON'T have an LFE input, one has to enter the -already filtered- signal from the external x-over into the sub's line level input(s); in doing so, you effectively daisy-chain two active filters; of course you would set the subs internal low-pass crossover to the maximum freq/position, but you are still cascading two active filters.

What happens then to the phase of the signal? Isn't there something possibly problematic happening if the sub's internal crossover freq is too close to the external crossover frequency?
